Unitarian Universalism and Animal Justice in 2025

A Year of Growth, Presence, and Compassion

In 2025, Unitarian Universalism and Animal Ministry (UUAM) reached an important milestone that reflected both the organization’s growth and a broader shift within Unitarian Universalism. For the first time in UUAM’s history, a sitting President of the Unitarian Universalist Association addressed our community.

In her remarks, Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt affirmed that animal justice is central to the denomination’s newly articulated Interdependence value. She described UUAM’s work as prophetic, theologically grounded, and essential to how Unitarian Universalists are being called to live their faith today.

UUAM’s work reflects how our faith is growing, widening the circle of care and living more fully into our shared commitment to justice for all beings.”
